The Plan
I want to produce two basic armies, one Parliamentarian and one Royalist, for Neil Thomas’ One Hour Wargames. This will require ten units for each army, with a random selection of six units being drawn from this pool for each scenario.

English Civil War armies don’t fit the proposed Pike and Shot options from the published rules, so I’ve decided on the following mix of units for each army.

Parliament
Four infantry, two cavalry, two dragoons, two artillery and a commander.

Royalist
Four infantry, four cavalry, two artillery and a commander.

Each army will also have a Witch-finder to indicate who has the moral advantage in each scenario. The commander and witch-finder allow me to use my modifications to the rules as I do with my Renaissance armies.

The Miniatures
Apart from the Witch-finders, which are from Lucid Eye Miniatures, I will be using Bicorn Miniatures for all the troops.
The Cost
The total cost, including wire pikes from Bicorn came to £519.12
I should have a few miniatures left over due to pack sizes, but not many.
In addition, I will need some Warbases bases and some Flags of War flags.

The Armies in Detail
Each field piece counts as ‘artillery’ in the rules, so I chose an assortment of guns that looked interesting.

Extra miniatures and units
Once I'd sorted out the miniatures into units, I realised I had some command figure poses I didn't want to use. Since I had no extra miniatures, I ordered two more command sets.
I also decided to add two units of Scottish swordsmen and two units of Irish pike (12 men with pikes) to the mix as mercenary units for both sides—Highlanders for Parliament and Irish for the Royalists.
This different mix of troop types gives each side different options. I modified the Army roster sheet accordingly.

3x BIC-ECWIR006 - IRISH PIKEMEN AT ORDER £42.00
1x BIC-ECWP10 - 3" WIRE PIKES (24) £6.00
1x BIC-ECWS021 - HIGHLANDER CHARGING WITH SWORD DOWN AND SHIELD £14.00
1x BIC-ECWS020 - HIGHLANDER CHARGING WITH SWORD UP AND SHIELD £14.00
1x BIC-ECW056 - FOOT COMMAND STANDING, TASSETS, HELMETS £14.00
1x BIC-ECW057 - FOOT COMMAND STANDING, TASSETS, BROAD BRIMMED HATS £14.00
Total £104.00
