Halloween
Halloween is a special time on Rubi-Ka. Each year at this time Uncle Pumpkinhead arrives and seeds the countryside with his likenesses. They mostly haunt tower sites and the deserted remnants of the many private cities that once littered the planet. They won't attack unless provoked but, if they're killed, they drop festive items, some of great worth. Here is Uncle Pumpkinhead himself with a host of his minions and some lootable Tertium Quid floating pumpkin pets. The minions are from West Wind Productions.
I made three graveyard bases as spawning points from old resin pieces from several manufacturers.
Uncle Pumpkinhead himself is from Reaper Miniatures and the Tertium Quids are from Anvil Industries.
These little chaps glow in the dark for added unpleasantness. They're very cheap Halloween toys.

The Game
Everything was set up according to the mission brief. The strange haunted house was placed centrally and the three graveyard spawning spots for the Pumpkinheads were put towards three of the four table corners. The fourth corner was taken up with the control tower for the tower site. The other towers and turrets were scattered around where they looked good. We were using the new smaller character sheets for the first time. They worked well.
Despite the other team having a Bureaucrat we won initiative and headed towards the nearest concentration of enemies.
Our first action was our new Soldier buffing himself ready for battle. He failed of course (n00b!) and the initiative switched to the opposition.
They made short work of a nearby turret and then started on the Pumpkinheads. We found we weren't the only useless amateurs about this Halloween as the other team failed to hit the Pumpkins they were trying for.
With renewed confidence we killed the two groups near us and headed for the tower. Some spiders (quite a lot of spiders actually) joined in but our Enforcer soaked everything up from the tower and the spiders so the Engineer and Soldier could get to work destroying it. My Doctor looked on, ready to heal in case (when) things turned nasty. Both teams passed at this point as we were low on resources and the Pumkinheads were respawned. Uncle Pumpkinhead still didn't grace us with his presence, we needed to kill more of his Pumpkin placeholder mobs to encourage him.
All the Pumpkins appeared near the other team. Who, winning the initiative, mowed them all down looting vast amounts of Halloween loot from the corpses.
We killed the big tower which was an achievement. No loot from towers though.
All that shooting used up everyone's actions and we started turn three.
Once again all the Pumpkins spawned next to the other team and this time they brought Uncle Pumpkinhead himself. Guess who won the initiative.
Guess what happened. Oh, the horror! Having killed Uncle Pumpkinhead the victorious team got to loot his house for spooky loot which they gleefully equipped.
Another fun game. The post BLAM rules changes worked well, everything is just a little more streamlined. |
